I just bought this DVD yesterday, and enjoyed my favorite Western for the umpteenth time. Just the title of the film, "Ride the High Country!" It's up there with "From Here to Eternity" and "The Best Years of our Lives," for sheer imaginative power. I relate to Steve and Gil more and more as I get older, from the need for reading glasses, sore muscles, and feeling anachronistic in the face of high-tech and Hip-hop. The Hammond boys exist in probably every city in America, and I've seen my share of them, a case of not just one bad apple, but a whole family of them! I'd like to see who their mother is, and where they learned to be such vicious jackasses.
The final gun-scene still sends shivers, and the simple, well-told story, not to mention the scenery still hold up today. This western deserved its place in the Film Registry. See it when you can.

your taste is impeccable. I watched this movie two weeks ago on television it surprised me for the shee force of its imagery. And the dialogues are artfully crafted. An all time masterpiece and Peckinpah at the top of his game.
